Dear Community,
Today we're introducing an important change: the management of long-term leaves (e.g. parental leave, sabbaticals, extended sick leave) is moving from the employee profile into your time off policies. Until now, these types of leave ran through a separate, hard-coded "Schedule leave" flow with its own fixed rules for compensation, status, and entitlement that couldn't be adjusted. That's changing now.
What's new?
- 🗒️ One system instead of two: Short-term absences and long-term leave now run through the same time off policies
- ⚙️ Configurable rules: Compensation, employee status, and entitlement to paid leave can now be set individually per policy, instead of being fixed
- ✏️ Easier editing: You can edit already-assigned policies and set an effective date, without having to duplicate them
- 📅 Calendar visibility: All time off periods and leaves will now appear in the calendar
What does this mean for you?
- Rules that fit you and your different use cases, instead of one rigid logic for all types of leave
- No more duplicates: make adjustments directly in the existing policy, with an effective date
- Approval workflows for all types of time off, not just some of them
- Full transparency, with the team calendar as your single source of truth
You'll find more details in the Help Center:
The transition to managing long-term leaves in time off policies
What do you need to do?
If you currently use "Schedule leave" to plan long-term leave, you should update your affected time off policies (e.g. for parental leave, sabbatical, maternity leave) with the new rules for compensation, status, and entitlement. Important to know:
- No existing data will be lost. All existing leave records remain visible and continue to run as usual
- Existing leave records can no longer be edited after the transition — they can only be viewed or deleted if needed (the associated time off period will be preserved). However, they can be migrated into the new system and edited there.
- For your employees, practically nothing changes. This transition mainly affects the admin view.
We're rolling out this update in phases starting July 27, 2026. If you can't yet edit an assigned time off policy, the transition simply hasn't gone live for your account yet.
