Hello community 👋
I’m Daniel - I recently joined Personio as the Product Manager of the brand-new Goals team in May, working out of our Amsterdam office.
In this post I’ll share what we’re currently working on around Goals, as well as our upcoming plans and how you can get involved.
What’s the Goals team working on?
Our new team is focused on creating a new Goals experience that helps you measure and improve employee performance at scale, on a fair and comparable basis.
Our first objective is to deliver an easier-to-use experience of the existing Goals features for supervisors, employees, and HR managers. In other words, our initial focus will be on improving usability, rather than adding new functionalities. We’ll bring Goals out of the Performance tab in the Employee Profile, and into the new Performance and Development area in Personio.
What’s included in the new Goals experience and when’s it coming?
⚠️ Disclaimer: we’re still fairly early in development, so ‘what’s coming’ is still liable to change.
I’ll tackle ‘when’ first: we’re aiming to launch the new Goals experience in the second half of 2022 📆
The core functionality will reflect what already exists: creating goals, tracking goal achievement, and integrations with Salaries and Custom Reports in Personio. Some functionality will however differ in the new experience, as we’re looking to optimise existing features based on your feedback.
Here are two differences we’re already confident to share:
-
Supervisors can quickly switch in one click between direct reports to check up on goals, rather than having to navigate to each employee profile.
-
When setting up a goal, users will not be able to see a list of key results that have previously been created by other users, reducing the risk that employees or supervisors accidentally share sensitive information.
Here’s a sneak peek at some early progress from our alpha version of the new experience:

Goals will move from the Performance tab in the Employee Profile, to the dedicated Performance & Development area.

🚀 Tip: custom reports are already available for Goals
After speaking to several of you, we realised that the custom reports functionality for Goals is pretty hard to discover! See our help centre article on creating a report for a goals and key results overview to learn more about how you can report on goals data.
How does this affect me if I’m currently using Goals?
As explained in earlier mailings we’ve sent out, this means that even if you currently have access to Goals in Personio, you’ll need to keep the following in mind:
-
If you have access to the old Goals experience, this functionality will become unavailable after 31 December 2022.
-
You’ll need to subscribe to the Performance & Development add-on module in order to access the new Goals experience.
No need to worry about your data if your company already uses the Goals feature on Personio: we will preserve all of your existing employee Goals data and make it available in the new experience, without you having to do anything. Even if you decide not upgrade to the new experience, you’ll still be able to export goals data after 31 December 2022, in accordance with GDPR.
How can you get involved as a customer?
We still have a whole bunch of decisions to make around the new experience, for which we’d really love more customer input. For instance, we’re interested in learning more about:
- Who in your organisation should be able to view and edit goals, and for which employees should they have access to do this?
- What’s the most effective way to display a history of the changes that have been made to goals?
- How do supervisors/employees confirm or approve the target and achievement for a goal?
And much more!
We’re open to speaking to any Personio customer, but we’re especially looking to talk with HR Managers, Supervisors, and Employees at companies with 200 or more employees and/or a more complicated goal setting process. You can book a 45 minute call with me here to talk about Goals: https://calendly.com/daniel-boon-personio/employee-goals.
The main users of Goals are actually the supervisors and employees at your company themselves. If you’re a HR manager, we’d love help from you to speak directly with these users and test our designs, to make sure we’re building an experience that’s easy for them to navigate - especially given the fact that these users are not spending every day in Personio, making a simple user experience crucial!
